Community Bid being prepared for The Black Horse Public House

(Scroll down for latest updates)

Black Horse Public House, Park Street, Dry Drayton   Dry Drayton Parish Council met on Tuesday 21 March 2017 before a packed village audience and discussed the future of the village's Black Horse public house.

Chairman Howard Russell explained that the pub had been registered by the Parish Council as an asset of community value. The pub had closed and Councillor Russell had been notified by the owner of an intention to sell it. After the discussion The Council agreed unanimously to notify South Cambridgeshire District Council that a community bid would be prepared with a view to the local community buying and running the pub. The Community then has 6 months to put together its bid and a business plan and raise the purchase price.

Councillor Russell asked for expressions of interest from anyone in the village willing to help with the preparation of the bid, writing a business plan and any other activities connected with the venture. A number of e-mail addresses were collected at the meeting from interested parties. If you would like to be added to the list please e-mail the Parish Clerk clerk@drydraytonpc.org.uk.

You can read on the South Cambs website at https://www.scambs.gov.uk/community-right-bid about the impact that registering the community intention to bid will have on any possible sale or attempt to change the use of the pub or to demolish it.

The Black Horse has been listed is a Grade II listed building since 1985 https://www.historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1127779.

Update 16 April 2017

From Anita Cullum, the Parish Clerk, clerk@drydraytonpc.org.uk. Dry Drayton Parish Council has officially submitted, in writing to South Cambridgeshire District Council, on behalf of the village, a notice to bid for The Black Horse. This means that the community now has until 6 September to raise the necessary funds to place a bid.

Bernard Lee of Pub is the Hub will be at the Parish Council meeting next Tuesday (18 April) to talk to the village and answer any questions you have, so please come along. There is an Annual Parish meeting at 7pm which is scheduled to take an hour so we can begin the parish council meeting promptly at 8pm. The Black Horse is one of the first items up for discussion at the 8pm meeting.

Please let Anita know if you plan to come along although it is fine just to turn up on the night.

Please could you also let Anita know if you would be willing to be part of the Black Horse steering group that will lead this project on behalf of the community.
